Artist’s Garden, London
The Brief: A fabulous glass extension on the back of this property cried out for a more attractive garden. The clients also wanted the garden to be practical and work better for their young family.
The Solution: Using the framed glass as inspiration, the design sought to create a better relationship between the artist’s studio and the house and make the most of the south-facing garden with well-proportioned and flexible useable spaces. We enlarged the reclaimed Yorkstone patio by the house to make it more useable and installed a more child-friendly step. A new hardwood deck built around the garden studio brought this previously dead space into use with for playing or painting outside. Stone paving was used to define the lawn and link the different areas, and an informal planting scheme was designed to provide changing seasonal interest – creating a pleasing outside-inside effect.
