Jenny Bloom Garden Design
Urban Living Garden, Hackney E8
The Brief: The existing outdoor space of the clients’ property near London Fields was more of a concrete yard than a garden. But having done a fantastic job on the interior, this young couple wanted help to transform it into an outdoor room for eating out and entertaining.
The Solution: Using the framed glass as inspiration, the design sought to create a better relationship between the artist’s studio and the house and make the most of the south-facing garden with well-proportioned and flexible useable spaces. We enlarged the reclaimed Yorkstone patio by the house to make it more useable and installed a more child-friendly step. A new hardwood deck built around the garden studio brought this previously dead space into use with for playing or painting outside. Stone paving was used was used to define the lawn defines and link the different areas, and informal planting scheme was designed to provide changing seasonal interest - creating a pleasing outside-inside effect.
