New Meets Old Garden, N1
The Brief: These clients had a charming mature garden in Barnsbury, but since a contemporary extension was added to the house a few years ago, they felt that the transition from one to the other didn’t quite work. They also wanted to enjoy better views of the garden from the house and patio all the year round.
The Solution: The space between the extension and the lawned garden was carefully redesigned to reflect the clean lines and crisp finish of the extension. The existing sawn yorkstone matched and the patio extended to the full width of the garden and a blade water feature was designed to echo the white rendered walls. The dense mature shrubs were removed to open up the garden views and a new planting scheme balances structure and seasonal colour for year round interest. A central path using new yorkstone and old brick denotes the transition from new to old, but the garden now blends in seamlessly with the architecture.
